General presentation of the master's degree : The master's degree in Biology is axed around the main domains of biomedical research in Grenoble. The first year of the master’s degree, i.e. the master 1st year's program is named Molecular and cellular biology (MCB) (See the video Master Biologie "sur le web" on this page) opens to the 7 following master 2nd year programs :
- Microbiology, infectious diseases and immunology (MIDI) program
- Structural biology of pathogens (SBP) program
- Neurosciences, neurobiology (NN) program
- Physiology, epigenetics, differentiation and cancer program (PhEDC)
- Biologie et techniques de commercialisation (BioTechCo) program (taught in French)
- Science trading (ST) program
- Pro2Bio program (taught partly in French and partly in English)
The master in Biology also offers an international program : Physiology, epigenetics, differentiation and development
Students graduating from the master’s degree in Biology can look forward to gaining job opportunities throughout the public and private sector, as well as in research settings in various fields of biology such as cell biology, molecular biology, microbiology, immunology, infectious diseases, neurosciences, physiology, epigenetics, development, biochemistry, structural biology.
The programs Pro2Bio, BioTechCo and Science trading open to careers as biomedical engineers (Pro2Bio) and sale engineers (BioTechCo and Science trading).

Parcours Molecular and cellular biology 1re année
The Master of Molecular & Cellular Biology welcomes students with a bachelor of Science from France or any other place of the world who want to obtain a very high level of training in Cellular and Molecular Biology. All courses include lectures and tutorials linked to related research developed in Grenoble. In addition to a solid knowledge in many areas of biology, you will develop skills in project management, analysis of experimental data and oral & written presentation. You will also naturally progress in English, an indispensable language for any kind of professional career. The Master 1 program includes a 2-months internship which will give you a strong experience in the professional world.
The Master 1 MCB opens to the following M2 training program to start a scientific career in academic labs or R&D in private companies.

Parcours Microbiology, infectious diseases and immunology 2e année
The first year of the MIDI master program entitled Molecular and cellular biology is meant to complete the general scientific background of the enrolled students in various fields of Biology (cell biology, genetics and biochemistry) during the first semester. The second semester is devoted to introduce the students to their specific master 2nd year's program by offering them specialized courses. For MIDI, the students will have at their disposal one UE for Immunology, one for microbiology, and one for Infectious diseases.
During this first year, the students will develop their written and oral skills for the search of internships and/or jobs as well as for the presentation of research projects and experimental results (mandatory modules of 3 ECTS - Communication tools - and 18 ECTS during the first semester of the master 1 program, 2 months internship during the second semester). The second year, first semester, of MIDI master program comprises 4 specific and integrated UEs that goes from microbiology to infectious diseases, to immunity against cancers and infectious diseases to end with pathology and immunology. During this second year, enrolled students will have the opportunity to further improve their written and oral presentation skills. The second semester is fully devoted to an internship.

Parcours Structural biology of pathogens 2e année
The objectives of the 2 year Structural biology of pathogens master program are to train the enrolled students in the complementary fields of structural biology, biochemistry, molecular and cellular biophysics. The students will learn how to integrate the modern approaches of integrative structural biology, which combine information of various length and time scales to get a global understanding of a biological process. At the end of this master program, the students will have acquired a global understanding of the experimental approaches undertaken to structurally characterize biomolecules and they will know about the potentials of these approaches for the study of biological systems. In particular they will be trained to start a PhD project in the field of integrated structural biology.

Parcours Neurosciences, neurobiology 2e année
The objectives of the Neurosciences, neurobiology master program are to provide the students with a strong scientific background in the various aspects of Neurosciences, from the most integrated ones to the cellular aspects. The students will also become familiar with the various techniques used in this developing field in biology.
At the end of this 2nd year's master program, the students should be able to undertake a PhD program in the fields of neurobiology or neurosciences. The first year of the Neurobiology - neurosciences (NN) master program (Molecular and cellular biology program) is meant to complete the general scientific background of the enrolled students in various fields of biology (cell biology, genetics and biochemistry) (semester 7), introduce the students to their specific master 2nd year's program by offering them specialized courses (semester 8), introduce the students to a research project, from its conception to its experimental undertaking and up to the report of the obtained results by an oral presentation as well as a written report (module of 18 ECTS during the first semester of the 1st year's master ; internship of 2 months in a research laboratory or in a R&D laboratory from a private company), allow the students to develop their written and oral skills for the search of internships and/or jobs as well as for the presentation of research projects and experimental results (mandatory modules of 3 ECTS - Communication tools - and 18 ECTS during the semester 7, 2 months internship during the second semester).

Parcours Physiology, epigenetics, differentiation and cancer 2e année
The students apply for admission in Master 2 (M2) Physiology, Epigenetics, Differentiation and Cancer (PhEDC) program following on a Master 1 (M1) Molecular and cellular biology program (MCB) at Université Grenoble Alpes or an equivalent M1 in another university. The first semester of the M1 MCB is common to all students of the Master in Biology. It is meant to complete the general scientific background of the enrolled students in various fields of biology (Physiology, Cell Biology, Genetics, Biochemistry...) while the second semester of M1 MCB introduces the students to the specific PhEDC program by offering them specialized courses and a 2-month internship in a laboratory.
The first semester of the M2 PhEDC includes 3 types of classes :
- Specialized classes directly related to the topics of PhEDC program with specific emphasis on cell biology (cell identity and fate) and physiology. These courses will integrate the most recent advances concerning the mechanisms involved in the control of cell identity and the alterations associated with cancer phenotypes or aging.
- Classes aiming at providing general knowledge or skills that are necessary to researchers (handling of a research project, entrepreneurship, English)
- Optional classes proposing an initiation to other fields of biological sciences (neurosciences, biostatistics, high throughput biology..).
The second semester of the M2 PhEDC consists in a 6-month research internship in a Research laboratory.

Parcours Biologie et techniques de commercialisation 2e année
Le master 2e année BioTechCo offre une double formation en commerce et biologie, en alternance à l’université et en entreprise, dont le rythme est adapté au monde professionnel et aux rythmes du marché.
La formation dispensée en alternance permet d'acquérir et de développer de solides bases en vente, marketing, finances, comptabilité, stratégie d’entreprises, promotion au moyen du produit vendu et de consolider ses connaissances scientifiques dans des domaines ciblés des secteurs professionnels.
Le technico-commercial est un professionnel dont les connaissances scientifiques et techniques permettent d’apporter aux clients des solutions pratiques et efficaces. L'avantage pour l'entreprise est d'intégrer un biologiste ou un chimiste (après la formation ChemTechCo) avec une double compétence et une vision globale et transversale de l’entreprise.
Les entreprises partenaires sont conscientes de la qualité de la formation double compétence, en alternance en particulier dans les domaines du commerce, de la vente et du marketing et dans les sciences.
La formation BioTechCo en alternance (apprentissage ou contrat de professionnalisation) est aussi accessible dans le cadre de la formation continue (modules de formation capitalisables) et à la Validation d’Acquis d’Expériences.
Dans le cadre de la formation en alternance et pour votre logement : il est prioritaire de privilégier la proximité avec votre entreprise ou la région de vos tournées, plutôt que la ville de Grenoble.
Le master BioTechCo a pour objectif de former des technico-commerciaux pour les industries de la santé, du diagnostic in vitro, de l'instrumentation, dans les secteurs des biotechnologies, de la chimie, de l'environnement.

Parcours Science trading 2e année
Consecutively to a 4 years training in biological sciences at the University the students beneficiate of a 1 year training in trading. They learn how to promote the scientific solutions which are proposed by French or foreign companies to their clients and users in the domains of health, environment, chemistry and in an international context.
The students are trained :
1) To understand the scientific activities of the clients (which are mainly laboratories)
2) To explain and propose the scientific and technical information to the various partners of the sale and purchasing chain (scientists ; users ; persons in charge of purchases ; quality controllers …)
To perform in this Job, Students need to be trained in commercial communication in order to be able to listen, ask questions and provide adequate solutions ; At the end of the year , students will be able to promote their company in the digital world; They will be able to adapt the markets acquisition strategies to varoius cultures and countries. The first year of the Science Trading master program is mean to :
- Complete the general scientific background of the enrolled students in various fields of biology (cell biology, genetics and biochemistry) (first semester of the master 1st year's program or in chemistry and physics)
- Introduce the students to their specific 2nd year's program by offering them specialized courses (second semester of the master 1st year's program,"connaissance de l'entreprise at the second semester of the first year of Master)
- Introduce the students to a research project, from its conception to its experimental undertaking and up to the report of the obtained results by an oral presentation as well as a written report (module of 18 ECTS during the first semester of the master 1st year's program ; internship of 2 months in a research laboratory or in a R&D laboratory from a private company. This Module in not mandatory to access in the M2 Science Trading but is recommended.)

Le parcours Pro2Bio de 2e année du master’s degree of Biology, propose à des étudiants titulaires d’une 1re année sensibilisés (et intéressés) aux domaines de l’immunologie, de la microbiologie, des maladies infectieuses (MIDI) de compléter leurs acquis scientifiques fondamentaux, d’acquérir les connaissances et les compétences indispensables au métier d’ingénieur d’études de la recherche et développement des entreprises de biotechnologies.
Pro2Bio mutualise des unités d’enseignement (UEs) scientifiques du parcours MIDI (Immunologie, microbiologie, maladies infectieuses), et des UEs à caractère professionnel (gestion de projet, écosystème des entreprises : stratégie, politique, marketing d’entreprises de l’innovation), ouverture professionnelle).
Les objectifs professionnels majeurs du parcours Pro2Bio sont de former des professionnels capables de développer et de mettre en œuvre des stratégies de développement de projet, de produits et de services relatifs au secteur des biotechnologies.

Conditions d'admission
- First year master's degree : If you have completed a bachelor’s degree in Science or are enrolled in the final semester of a bachelor’s program in Science, you are eligible to apply for the master’s degree in Biology
- Second year master's degree : to be eligible to apply you should have completed, or be enrolled in a first year of a master program in Science, and totalize 60 ETCS
An interview will be proposed to the applicants to the first and second year of the master’s degree in Biology in order to test their motivation.
Public continuing education: You are in charge of continuing education :
• if you resume your studies after 2 years of interruption of studies
• or if you followed training under the continuous training regime one of the previous 2 years
• or if you are an employee, job seeker, self-employed
If you do not have the diploma required to integrate the training, you can undertake a validation of personal and professional achievements (VAPP).
