Descriptif

L'objectif de ce cours est de comprendre les principes et la mise en application des méthodes de machine learning (apprentissage automatique, une des branches de l'intelligence artificielle) dans le cadre des géosciences. Pour cela, nous introduirons les concepts, les principaux usages en géosciences (détection/compréhension de phénomènes naturels à partir d'imagerie satellitaire, de séries temporelles, etc), les principaux problèmes traités (Régression, classification et apprentissage non-supervisé) ainsi que les principales méthodes (forêts aléatoires, PCA..). Pour finir, nous introduirons de façon succinte les méthodes d'apprentissage profond (deep learning).

Le but premier de ce cours est de savoir utiliser par soi-même ces outils, de comprendre les principaux verrous, mais aussi d'en comprendre les limites. Pour cela, le module s'appuie sur 12h de TP en langage Python.

Pré-requis:
Notions de base en programmation Python, ainsi qu'en mathématiques.

The objective of this course is to understand the principles and the application of machine learning methods (one of the branches of artificial intelligence) in the context of geosciences. To do so, we will introduce the concepts, the main uses in geosciences (detection/understanding of natural phenomena from satellite imagery, time series, etc.), the main problems addressed (regression, classification and unsupervised learning) as well as the main methods (random forests, PCA..). Finally, we will briefly introduce deep learning methods.

The main goal of this course is to know how to use these tools by oneself, to understand the main problems, but also to understand their limits. For this, the module is based on 12 hours of practical work in Python.

Pre-requisites:
Basic knowledge of Python programming and mathematics.
