The Online Diploma in Legal Studies is a distance learning version of the Diploma in Legal Studies, university law degree (diplôme d’université) taught in English at the Grenoble Law School.
It offers a substantive knowledge and legal skills in the main fields of French Law (French Public Law, French Private Law), in History of Law as well as in European Law, International Law and Comparative law.
If you want to:
- Acquire skills in French Law
- Acquire or develop skills in the fields of European Law, International Law with a particular focus on French academic perspectives
- Acquire and develop skills in Comparative Law
- Develop your English skills in the field of Law
And if you need flexibility in your learning programme because:
- You are enrolled in an academic programme at your home university
- You are entered in the professional world
- You are unable to consider a move to France
The DU “Online Diploma in Legal Studies” is an opportunity to study at your own pace and realise your project.

Spécificités du programme
General organisation of the Diploma:
Students wishing to obtain the DU must choose and validate 10 courses (each course representing 18 hours) among the following courses.
Fall semester (1)
- French Legal History: From Diversity to Unity
- Public Law I: Constitutional Law
- International Contract Law
- International Relations in a Contentious World
- The European Union Legal System: the European Union Stability in Times of Crisis
- Comparative Criminal Law
Spring semester (2)
- History of Human Rights: From Domestic to International Protection of the Individual
- Public Law II: Administrative Law
- Private International Law
- International Protection of Human Rights
- European Business Law
Each course gives 6 ECTS.
Admission
Conditions d'admission
Your acceptance into the DU Online Diploma in Legal Studies depends on the strength of your application.
Selection criteria:
- Have completed at least two semesters of higher education in law
- Or have completed at least two semesters of higher education in a field other than Law but have shown a strong interest in law
- Or have a professional experience demonstrating a strong interest in law.
- Fluent in written and spoken English
