Systems with high-frequency (RF or microwave) links have proliferated in recent years and offer enormous opportunities for designers of high-frequency electronic or optoelectronic circuits. The aim of this course is to teach the basic concepts and offer an introduction to the tools needed for designing these various circuits.

  • Introduction to radiofrequency systems: principle of a transceiver, technologies, standards.
  • Propagation lines: technologies, modelling, characteristic quantities.
  • RF analysis tools: S parameters, cascade matrix, Smith chart.
  • Study of the phenomena of propagation of electromagnetic waves in guided mode using a "circuit" approach. Characteristics of TEM propagation lines. Application to the adaptation of impedance of amplifiers and microwave circuits. Application to filter synthesis.
  • "Everyday" systems concerned: mobile telephones, 2.45 GHz and 5.5 GHz WiFi, radar satellites, future very high speed communications.
