Degrees incorporating this pedagocial element :

Description

Course outline: Organometallic compounds play a pivotal role in organic synthesis and they are used routinely in every chemistry laboratory. They can be use as stoichiometric reagents (organolithiums, Grignards etc….) or as catalysts. And as catalysts, they promote many very important reactions from hydrogenations of olefins to creation of carbon-carbon, carbon-nitrogen or carbon-oxygen bonds. The reactivity of these compounds will be studied starting with the electronic structures of these complexes followed by their application in organic synthesis.

Recommended prerequisite

Organic chemistry (bachelor program, CHI501 and CHI601)

Targeted skills

Knowledge of the typical reactivity and synthetic uses of the most representative organometallics reagents.
