Degrees incorporating this pedagocial element :
Description
This course introduces the structure and reactivity of different classes of biomolecules (peptides, nucleic acids) with a special emphasis on their synthetic pathway. An overview of the roles that are played by the metal ions in life (biotransformations, dioxygen transport, drug elimination, toxicity…) will then be presented. A third aspect will be developed, the medicinal chemistry of inorganic compounds, used in diagnosis (contrast agents), chemotherapy (cis-platinum) and radiotherapy (Tc complexes). Finally, we will focus on the MRI techniques used world-wide for imaging tissues.
Recommended prerequisite
Inorganic Chemistry (bachelor program, CHI502), Chemistry of Biomolecules (CHI735)
