UE Near surface geophysics

Descriptif

The course is open to Georisks, Geophysics and MEEES paths. It will briefly recall basics in Geophysical imaging (Seismic refraction, electrical soundings) and more advanced methods i:) those which needs inversion such as tomographic methods (electric, seismic) and Surface wave investigations, and ii) those who needs advanced signal processing methods such as Ground Penetrating Radar and advanced Seismic reflection methods. A specific GPS course is also included. 

The course will be a bit data oriented with training using different geophysical softwares (electrical and seismic tomography, Surface wave inversion, Seismic Unix). 

A field trip is included, in general on a landslide, and acquired data are then processed by students leading to a report.

Pré-requis

Basics of signal processing would be a plus. Basics in geophysical imaging in 1D also (electrical soundings, seismic refraction).

Compétences visées

Critical analysis of geophysical methods popular for natural hazards and environement. Data processing and interpretation.
