Descriptif

This course covers all the specificities of Wireless networks, with more focus on WLAN (IEEE 802.11/WiFi) and sensor networks.
It starts with an introduction to the wireless channel, which encompasses the principles of spread spectrum as well as the techniques used for high data rates (OFDM, MIMO).

Several aspects of WiFi (IEEE 802.11) are studied like random access (CSMA/CA), rate adaptation as well as the interactions with other protocol layers. Lab sessions complement the lectures. We present the high data rate variants.

Energy efficiency and the mechanisms for energy conservation are among the problems specific to wireless devices. They are discussed in the WLAN context but also for LPWANs (Sigfox, LoRa) which are developing rapidly. These technologies are also part of the syllabus.
