UE Optical II: imaging and microscopy

This course is devoted to the formation of optical images, with particular attention being paid to resolution limits in the plane and in 3D. The concepts of impulse response and transfer functions are therefore introduced. The active correction methods used to improve resolution are discussed, along with aperture synthesis. Lastly, several innovative aspects of spectroscopy will be covered. Examples of applications are taken essentially from astronomy and microscopy.
