Degrees incorporating this pedagocial element :
Description
Course outline: Chemistry being an experimental science, practice in the laboratory is a fundamental teaching in the chemistry curriculum.
As performing a chemical experiment means preparation, students will first have a few courses about modern bibliographic techniques. Then, they will performed 4 synthetic chemistry labs illustrating several fields of chemistry as well as 4 analytical labs illustrating modern techniques (analysis of surfactants using surface tension and conductivity measurements, fluorimetry, gaz chromatography, cyclic voltametry).
Prerequisites
Chemistry laboratories (bachelor program, CHI501 and CHI601)
Targeted skills
Skills: Being able to perform chemical experiments from basic ones to the work under inert atmosphere and handling of sensitive reagents and being able to analyze organic and inorganic compounds by using physical methods.
Bibliography
Details:
I. Modern bibliographic tools
II. Synthesis lab illustrating organic synthesis, organometallic reagents, bio-organic and bioinorganic chemistry.
III. The analytical labs focuse on a selection of four different analytical methods presenting various aspects and methodologies in analytical chemistry.
