UE Solid state physics 3: correlations and transport



This course concludes the training on the electronic properties of quantum solids by introducing the concepts of correlation and transport. It is based on the following plan: 

- Landau quasiparticles, Fermi liquid theory

- Kinematic equation and its use when calculating thermoelectric transport coefficients: electric and thermal conductance, Peltier and Seebeck coefficients

- Diffusion processes in metals: electron-impurity, electron-electron, electron-phonon, electron-magnetic impurity (Kondo effect)

- Noise and fluctuations in solids: Johnson-Nyquist, shot noise

- Quantum transport concepts: conductance quantisation, Aharanov-Bohm effect, mesoscopic fluctuations
