UE Second quantification



This course is an introduction to second quantisation. It presents the mathematical concepts and elements used to resolve N-body problems in quantum mechanics (correlations). It is based on the following plan:

- Review of operators in quantum mechanics: linear and hermitian operators, commutators. Slater determinant and indiscernibility. 

- Formalism of second quantisation: operators in second quantisation (creation, annihilation), elementary properties, field generator and expression of usual operators (one and two body terms) 

- Hartree-Fock approximation: N-interacting particles, exchange integer, correlations, mean-field approximation

- A few examples: jellium model, electron-photon interaction (BCS theory of superconductivity)
