Master in Nanosciences and nanotechnologies



This programme is available in the form of work-linked training in the second year of the Master.

Students can enter the M2 from the M1 nanochemistry or M1 nanophysics programmes of the Nanosciences and Nanotechnologies specialisation. It is also accessible via various M1 programmes offered by the chemistry and physics training & research units (UFRs).

 The programme is structured as follows:

  • a foundation programme of 12 ECTS, including 3 ECTS in a modern language
  • specific modules (24 ECTS)
  • work-linked training (24 ECTS)

A specific feature of this programme is that it includes numerous practical assignments carried out directly in industry using top-end equipment, either at the Leti Laboratory (CEA) or the Alliance Crolles II (STMicroelectronics, Philips Semiconductors, Freescale Semiconductors). One third of lecturers for the Master come from industry (STMicroelectronics, Philips Semiconductors, Freescale Semiconductors), one third from CEA and CEA-Leti, and one third from the university and CNRS. This close involvement of industry in the Master makes it especially competitive on the employment market.

The main aim of this programme is to train managers with solid scientific and technical skills in the field of engineering and characterisation of micro- and nanostructures, as well as surfaces.

Access conditions

Education requirements:
    •    For the first year (M1): holders of a bachelor degree in chemistry or physics, or equivalent diploma.
    •    For the second year (M2): students who have completed the first year of a compatible Master programme or equivalent level.

You are eligible for continuing education:

  • if you are resuming your studies after two years of interruption,
  • or if you followed a training course under the continuing education scheme in either of the past two years,
  • or if you are an employee, job seeker, or self-employed worker.

 If you do not have the diploma required for admission to the course, you can undertake a process of validation of prior personal and professional experience (VAPP).



Further studies

This programme offers career opportunities such as research & development engineer in public or private research organisations, as well as in various companies involved in activities ranging from materials preparation through to micro-electronics and renewable energies.


According to the 2014-15 survey, two graduate respondents were on the labour market (employment+research). Of these, 100% were in employment 30 months after graduation.
